Fiber Engineering
Situation:
One of the country's largest medical device manufacturers developed a unique bioabsorbable fiber that had a lot of potential for a variety of tissue engineering applications. The problem was that the fiber was produced one filament at a time. Each filament was so delicate that the company not find a weaver or knitter who could form it into the fabric structures they needed.
Results:
After approaching one of Italy's top textile machinery designers for help, the Italian designer referred the company to Concordia. Within two months Concordia had designed and built a machine that turned the individual filaments into a yarn suitable for knitting. Concordia then redesigned and rebuilt a knitting machine to optimize the production of the fabrics required.
