Once the producer of about 75% of the yarns found in Velcro brand hook and loop closures world wide, Concordia learned in the late 1980's that it had to become more specialized as foreign competition drove high volume manufacturing opportunities off shore.    

Concordia began focusing on opportunities where unique engineering and performance capabilities were the drivers for product development instead of the ability to produce high product volumes.   The company looked for applications where more precise control of fiber geometry, tensile, elongation, modulus, and other properties were essential to the success of the final fabric.   Concordia also made a concerted effort to learn about the latest developments in new polymer technologies.   As a result Concordia was one of the first companies to process Kevlar, Nomex, Teflon, Spectra, and Vectran fibers.   Concordia also developed expertise in the heat setting of polyesters and nylons.

Today most of Concordia's technical yarns go into industrial applications like reinforcements for power transmission belts and filtration fabrics.   The company also has had success in developing highly specialized yarns for couture fashion fabrics and home furnishings.
